Gunmen Kill 15 Herdsmen In Zamfara
No fewer than 15 herdsmen have been killed in Zamfara by unknown gunmen, the police source has said.
The Spokesman for the state police command, Muhammad Shehu said that the attack was carried out at Bawon-Daji village and 15 herders killed.
His account was corroborated by Gado Anka, a local government official.
According to Anka, the gunmen believed to be cattle rustlers who stormed the village at about 1am and shot repeatedly to the residents who are Fulani herdsmen.
“They killed 12 people in the attack. They came back about two hours later and killed another three as the residents were trying to bury the dead,” Anka noted.
Attacks and counter-attacks by herdsmen and farmers have pervaded some northern parts of the country in the last few months.
The police are helpless due to lack of weapons to stem the continuous killings while the armed forces had been alleged to be colluding with herders.
Former Minister of Defence, TY Danjuma told the residents of Taraba last week to defend themselves against the killer herdsmen.
He called on Nigerians not to rely on the soldiers and must resist the attack by themselves.
His comments, however, attracted a lot of condemnation and adulation.
