Heavy Security In Makurdi As Buhari Visits Benue
Heavily armed security personnel have been stationed at strategic places in Makurdi, Benue State as President Muhammadu Buhari pays a condolence visit to the state on Monday.
Buhari had listed Zamfara, Plateau, Borno, Taraba, Rivers and Benue as parts of the violent ridden states he would be visiting last Monday.
The president was in Taraba last week Monday to condole those who lost their loved ones in the Mambilla Plateau attack. He said in Taraba that any herdsman carrying gun should be arrested and prosecuted.
However, as the president is due in Benue today, following the massacre of 73 indigenes by herdsmen in the New Year, the Federal Government had beefed up security in the state.
This is the first time Buhari would be visiting Benue since the attack, which of course had generated hostility among the residents.
As at Monday, major roads were being patrolled by siren-blaring police vans while some streets were manned by security agents, including the operatives of the Department of State Service.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was in Benue at the weekend where he visited the cenotaph of those that were killed on January 1.
