Herdsmen Attack: Death Toll Rises To 56 In Taraba
The number of people that were killed by Fulani herdsmen has risen to 56, sources in the state have said.
Some of the survivors who spoke to our correspondent that many residents had fled their homes as herdsmen continued killings in the state.
Recalled that the attack by herdsmen started on Saturday when residents of some communities in the Lau Local Government Area of the state were murdered in cold blood.
The communities include Lavoro, Didango, Donaddo, Katibu and Maku.
Before Saturday attack, it was gathered that the herdsmen killed a family of five on Friday and another seven in the Wukari and Gassol local government areas of the state.
It was learnt that over 200 houses were burnt while children that could not escape were slaughtered in cold blood.
“The bodies of the victims had since been buried while survivors had fled their homes,” the source said.
One of the affected residents, Mr Sani Marafa, who said six of his relations were among those given the mass burial, added that the attackers were over 100.
“They attack us both in the day and night. They shoot, slaughter and burn our people, including six of my relatives,” Marafa said.
