Herdsmen Invade Cross River, Sack Mbiabong Ito Community
Residents of Mbiabong Ito community, in Ito South clan, Odukpani Local Government Area, Cross River State have been sacked from their homes as herdsmen invaded the place early this week.
A resident, who simply identified himself as Paul told our correspondent that about 200 homes were invaded while the occupants already scattered in the bush, fleeing from the nomadic herdsmen.
He said that the herdsmen came in large number from nowhere with thousands of their cows and took over the community farmland.
“The herdsmen carried sophisticated guns and shot repeatedly into the air to scare the residents, most of whom are farmers. We cannot resist them. They have taken over our farms as I’m talking to you,” Paul said.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer ASP Irene Ugbo said that men would be deployed in the area to broker peace, adding, “We are on top of the matter.”
It was gathered that many of the residents sustained various degrees of injuries while fleeing from the nomadic herdsmen.
“Many of them have not returned home for the fear that the herdsmen would attack them. Please help us call on the State Government to intervene so that we can return home,” another source said.
