Suspected herdsmen have killed two persons in a fresh attack on Waku village and a part of Gbajimba town, all in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
The State Commissioner of Police Fatai Owoseni and Chairman of Guma Local Government Area, Mr Anthony Shawon who confirmed this to our correspondent also said that the farmhouse belonging to Governor Samuel Ortom was also attacked by the herdsmen.
According to them, the suspected herdsmen were joined by the unknown militia to attack the peaceful communities, killing two and destroying many farms.
Owoseni stated that the police had deployed more policemen in the place and that they had been able to keep the killers away from Gbajimba.
Commenting on this, Shawon called on the Federal Government to intervene now, saying that with the way things are going the Janjaweed may overrun many communities in Benue State.
Reacting to the attack, the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Lawrence Onoja, Jnr alleged that the herdsmen had the backing of some highly placed Nigerians.
He stated that no fewer than 46 communities in the state had since been attacked by the herdsmen in the last few months.
