Herdsmen Killings: FG Resolves To Use Army
The Working Group raised two weeks ago by the National Economic Council (NEC) to find a lasting solution to the killings by herdsmen may have settled for military action in trouble areas.
Headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the group was of the view that there were bandits and mercenaries behind the killings in Benue, Taraba and Adamawa states.
A source told our correspondent that the Federal Government would not impose the creation of cattle colonies on any state but would allow every state to come out with modalities to keep the herdsmen and farmers in peace.
The group, which also has nine governors as members believed that those killing innocent people had the backing of some sponsors, adding that troops would be ordered to fish out the mercenaries in a short time.
The group said that it would be working with the security agents, including the police, Nigerian Army and Department of State Service to ensure that there is lasting peace between farmers and herdsmen.
It stated that the military had been engaged and would be taking decisive steps on how to stop the killings by herdsmen and farmers across the country.
