Herdsmen Killings: NYSC Members Seek Redeployment From Troubled States

Many of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to states under attacks by herdsmen have been seeking redeployment.

An officer of NYSC in Taraba State told our correspondent on Sunday that parents and guardians of the corps members have been coming to his office to seek redeployment.

The troubled states include Adamawa, Taraba, Benue, Kaduna, according to the source, adding, “No parent wants his child to serve in those states for now.”

Reacting to this, the acting Director, Public Relations Unit of the NYSC, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, said that plans had been put in place to redeploy corps members form the troubled zones.

She said that corps members in such zones had been identified and efforts are ongoing to ensure their safety, including redeploying them from such dangerous places.

Mrs Adeyemi explained further, “The NYSC will not compromise the security of corps members in all the affected states. We usually redeploy corps members to safe areas wherever there are crises,”.

She said that as at December 2017 that trouble started in Numan Local Government of Adamawa, all the corps members were moved away to another place of primary assignment.

According to her, other states where corps members have been redeployed include Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna and Benue.
