How Buhari’s Illness Disrupted Our Programme – APC
The All Progressives Congress, APC said has said that it could not hold its convention due to the ill health of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Zamfara State Governor, Abdul-Aziz Yari told journalists shortly after the party’s National Working Committee met with the governors elected under APC on Wednesday.
Yari said that the party had been fixing dates and changing it because it could not hold meeting with Buhari who is a leader of the party.
According to him, convention has a process and there is need to meet with the president to finalise the arrangement but due to his ill health, the party could not.
However, the party resolved to have a mid-term convention beginning with ward congress to kick start the process of the bigger convention.
“It is not an elective convention and the three delegates to be elected on Saturday, July 29, will be the delegates for the convention, which will fill some of the existing vacancies,” Yari said.
The Working Committee meeting also inaugurated a committee headed by Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, to come up with the ruling party’s definition of restructuring.
Others in the 10-member committee include the governors of Kano State Abdullahi Ganduje, Osun State, Rauf Arebegsola, Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun and Simon Lalong (Plateau).
Also included are Other members, the National Publicity Secretary of the party Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi; a former governor of Edo State, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, the APC National Organising Secretary, Senator Osita Izunaso and Hajia Fatima Bala.
The committee’s secretary is Senator Olubunmi Adetumbi.
