I Consulted Pastor Adeboye Before I Contested For Presidency – Obasanjo
Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo revealed on Tuesday that he consulted three people while running for presidency in 1999.
He said this at a book launch written on the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye.
Obasanjo said, “I consulted late Nelson Mandela, Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu and Pastor E.A Adeboye and they all asked me to go ahead and also prayed for me.”
Obasanjo arrived the RCCG Youths Centre, Mowe, venue of the book launch without notifying Adeboye of his coming.
He said that he had been instructed by the pastor’s wife, Pastor Folu Adeboye to keep his coming secret because the book launch was a surprise package for the cleric.
Obasanjo said that he was pleased to be at the event, which was also attended by the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.
According to the ex-president, Pastor Adeboye is a true man of God who had touched the lives of many more than what the government of Nigeria had done.
He apologized for not letting him know about his coming, adding that he was only obeying the instruction by the pastor’s wife.
He stated that he had lived by the Grace of God who kept him from being killed by the ex-dictator, Gen. Sani Abacha, despite that he did not commit any offence.
He said, “Abacha did not want any of the three of us, myself, MKO Abiola and Musa Yar’Adua to live but only me survived. It shows that God really wants me to live.|”
The event became dramatic when Pastor Adeboye hugged his wife, Folu and kissed her in the public.
He said that their marriage is 50 years old and that they are still in honeymoon.
