Inferno Throws Third Mainland Bridge Into Heavy Traffic
The ever-busy Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos was thrown into heavy traffic early Wednesday when a car caught fire.
Motorists have to park and abandon their vehicles to escape from the scene. Commuters were stranded due to the logjam as men of the Lagos State Fire Service struggled to put out the fire.
For about 45 minutes that the car was burning, the fire service officers could not get to the spot because the stretch of the road from Adekunle to Iyana Oworo was totally blocked.
Though there was no casualty, the car in the fire incident was burnt completely. One hour after the incident, the officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority took control of the situation to ease traffic.
Most workers on the Lagos Island arrived office late due to the traffic situation.
Speaking to our correspondent, a motorist, who identified himself as Tunji Bakare said that he had to abandon his vehicle so as not to be a casualty like those on Otedola Bridge some weeks ago.
He said, “Everybody, including commercial bus drivers and passengers, abandoned their vehicles and ran for safety this morning. There was no way the fire service men could get there because the road was blocked.”
