International Fruit Day: 50 Fruits Manufacturers to Grace Lagos Exhibition
As Lagos State Government warms up to celebrate International Fruit Day, about 50 fruit manufacturing company exhibitors have signified their intention to participate at an exhibition to mark the event.
This was revealed at a news conference jointly addressed by the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Toyin Suarau and Managing Director of Fruits Event, a Non-Governmental Organisation, Mrs. Arafat Apooyin.
According to Suarau, the maiden edition of the International Fruit Day is to create in the minds of the teeming Lagos residents the importance of fruits and why they must take fruits for healthy living.
He said that the present administration is making serious efforts in the area of food production and had since created the day to celebrate varieties of fruits and their health benefits.
“That is why we have partnered the Fruits Event to make the day a memorable and to launch Lagos and by extension Nigeria into the groups of fruits exporting city and nation respectively,” he said.
The event which will take place on July 1 and 2 with the theme ‘Our Fruit, Our Wealth’, according to Suarau would give room for farmers and interested fruit dealers to meet with exhibitors on how to key into the idea.
“There is also going to be a symposium where business community can interact to lead a new way into fruit production and exportation,” he stated.
For Apooyin, CEO of Fruits Event, the International Fruits Day will open our farmers to various modern technology with which fruits could be produced at cheaper cost.
