IPOB Predicts Bloody Poll In Anambra
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has predicted bloody governorship election as Anambra residents go to the poll this morning.
In a fresh threat issued this morning a member of the defunct group who pleaded anonymity said that IPOB would be out to disrupt the poll and might lead to fracas with the police.
Recalled that the group had suspended his embattled leader, Nnamdi Kanu whose whereabouts is yet unknown but some of its members are strategizing to carry their threat of stopping the Anambra election.
It was gathered that the group might bomb the commercial centre of Onitsha on Saturday to scare the electorate from coming out.
Earlier, the police had deployed 26, 000 operatives and 300 Hilux Vans to provide security in Anambra. The police also deployed a helicopter to monitor some coastal areas of the state.
However, there are indications that apathy may mar the poll as residents are not willing to risk their lives in the tense environment.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission had promised to conduct a free, fair and peaceful election without compromise.
As at the time of this report, our correspondent who is monitoring the election observed that INEC officials have been moving election materials to various polling stations.
