King Sunny Ade’s Customized Guitar Auctioned for N52 Million

Legendary Fuji artist, King Sunny Ade has been having a whirlwind celebration to mark his 70th birthday and another milestone was recorded as a vintage fender guitar owned by the legend was auctioned for N52.1 million in Lagos.

This happened at a concert which was held in honour of the legendary musician on Sunday 11 December 2016 at the Temple Balmoral Marquee, in the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The guitar was auctioned by a Certified Auctioneer and Chief Executive of Onabanjo and Onabanjo & Co, Dr. Jogun Onabanjo, and is reported to have been designed by Nigerian artist Victor Ehikamenor.

The concert was tagged Sunny on Sunday, and had an audience which comprised of Nigeria’s richest and top celebrities in attendance including influential businessmen such as Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Mr. Femi Otedola, when the glittering artistic piece was revealed.

The bid for the guitar started at nine million Naira and was a very competitive process even as the asking price for the guitar doubled to N17m in less than two minutes before exceeding the N50m benchmark in about 15 minutes.

The winner of the bid is yet to be revealed.
