Labour Union Commends FG Over The Return Of Rail System
The Industrial Global Union African Region and National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, NUTGTWN have commended the Federal Government for its investment on the rail system.
The General Secretary of NUTGTWN, Mr Issa Aremu gave this commendation on Wednesday, adding that the return of rail system would boost the economy and create jobs for millions of unemployed youths in the country.
He said, “I now travel happily from Kaduna to Abuja frequently, thanks to the return of Railway.
President Muhammadu Buhari commissioned the rail line between Abuja and Kaduna, which was started by former President Goodluck Jonathan administration in Kaduna last week.
Recalled that work had begun on Lagos-Kano Standard Gauge Railway, which according to the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi would be completed in 2021.
Issa said that the infrastructure would definitely reduce the rate of unemployment and would make the transportation of livestock easier from the north to the south.
Other rail projects that would be done include, the Port Harcourt to Maiduguri line covering, Owerri, Enugu, Aba, Umuahia, Awka, Abakaliki, Lafia, Makurdi, Jos, Gombe, Bauchi, Yola and Damaturu.
The government also said that it would complete the Abuja to Itakpe line through Baro and terminate in Warri.
During the period, according to Amaechi, the Federal Government would construct a new seaport at Warri.
