Lagos Hands Over Teachers Who Defile Pupils To Police
Lagos State Government has handed over some teachers who defiled no fewer than 10 female pupils of Nazareth Junior/Senior College, Ibowon, Epe.
The Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Education, Mr. Adesina Odeyemi told our correspondent on Friday, adding that the teachers had since confessed of their heinous conduct.
He said, “Following a report that some teachers were in the habit of defiling some students of the school, the government swung into action and organized a probe committee where the teachers confessed.”
Earlier the report had been made to the state’s Office of Public Defender, OPD, under the state’s Ministry of Justice but the culprits could not be summoned until the Ministry of Education was involved.
After the meeting at a Personnel Management Board, PMB, set up by the Ministry on the issue, the teachers were handed over to the police for further investigation.
He also stated that all the victims of rape and defilement in the school had written statements to the police on how they were lured into committing such atrocity.
“In line with established procedures, the state government has taken the affected students to the hospital for comprehensive medical examination to aid the Police investigation.”
The case was first reported by a national daily when one of the pupils was complaining of stomach ache and was taken to the hospital by her parents.
It was discovered at the hospital that the girl had been infected with Sexually Transmitted Disease, STD.
Further probe showed that a teacher actually transmitted the disease to her when he defiled the pupil.
