Let Us Adopt MKO Abiola’s Manifesto, Tinubu Charges APC
Barely 24 hours to the anniversary of the June 12, 1993 election, the former Governor of Lagos State and a key defendant of the day, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has challenged the All Progressives Congress to adopt the late politician’s manifesto.
Tagged “Farewell to poverty”, Tinubu said that the “Hope 93” slogan should be embraced by the APC ruling to demonstrate the actual immortalization of the winner of the June 12, 1993 election, Chief Abiola.
President Muhammadu Buhari had last week declared June 12 as Democracy Day as he also awarded a Grand Commander of the Federal Republic, GCFR posthumous award to Abiola.
The former Lagos State governor spoke yesterday when he received the wives and children of the late Abiola who were on a “thank you visit” to his residence in Lagos.
Tinubu said: “We’ve continued to struggle for this day that this injustice must be corrected to become part of our history. And if we truly are Democrats, we must take the fulfilment of the date as a dream that must be realised and that has come from a military man, a man of military background, who is now truly committed to democratic principles and values. We must adopt now hope and farewell to poverty as next crusade to continue to immortalize the beliefs and values of MKO Abiola”
