Mainagate: Malami To Appear Before The Senate Tomorrow, Seeks Open Trial
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN) has said that he will prefer open trial as the Senate committee investigates his role in the sordid reinstatement of the Ex-Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina.
Malami is due to appear before the Senate tomorrow, Tuesday, November 14, 2017, but in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, the minister said that he would use the opportunity to address members of the public.
He once said that he had taken the decision to reinstate Maina in public interest and that he had been vilified by his action.
He said, “I know the committee may want to try me in secret but I will not take it because I want an open trial before the Senate.”
He posited that he would want to address Nigerians on the issue so that he could be exonerated by the media.
Recalled that the Head of Service, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita and the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Civil Service Commission had indicted Malami in their reports of being the mastermind behind Maina’s reinstatement.
President Muhammadu Buhari frowned at the development and had since ordered the sack of Maina from the federal service.
