Maina’s Reinstatement Beyond My Understanding – Magu
The return of the former Chairman of the defunct Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina to Nigeria is beyond my understanding.
The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr Ibrahim Magu said this during a chat on a national television, adding that Maina’s reinstatement and promotion were beyond his understanding.
He said, “I was dumbfounded as to how the fugitive was brought into the country and promoted despite being on the INTERPOL watch list.”
Magu stated that despite that Maina was being wanted by the INTERPOL and EFCC, he was smuggled in by a group of people who were protecting him.
The EFCC declared Maina wanted over the allegation of N2 billion pension fraud but after several years, the suspect returned to the country and reabsorbed into the civil service and deployed to the Ministry of Interior.
Magu could not disclose those who were shielding Maina from arrest as he pledged to uncover the hideouts of the former pension boss.
He said that the INTERPOL is currently looking for Maina and that the EFCC would capitalise on this to enter countries as Dubai, UK and USA where the culprit could be hiding.
