Melaye Must Get To Lokoja Today – Police
The Nigeria Police Force has said that Senator Dino Melaye must be taken to Lokoja on Thursday, (today) to answer the question over his alleged involvement in gun-running charges.
Melaye’s Lawyer, Mr Nkem Okoro told our correspondent that the police are bent on taking the senator to Kogi on a stretcher as he was rearrested on Wednesday.
Melaye was arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja amid a heavy presence of policemen but was granted bail in the sum of N90 million.
He was arraigned on charges bordering on his alleged escape from a police vehicle in Abuja on April 24, 2018.
Melaye who pleaded non-guilty after the charges were read to him by the presiding magistrate, Mabel Segun-Bello was granted bail.
He was also directed by the court to report to Wuse police station every working day of the week.
Despite that the lawmaker met his bail conditions, the police rearrested him at the premises of the court while still on a stretcher.
“He met his bail conditions but the police decided to rearrest him on the excuse that they were taking him to Lokoja tomorrow morning,” Okoro said.
