Melaye Speaks From Police Custody
Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West was arrested this morning by the Nigeria Police on his way to Morocco at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
He has since been detained by the police at the airport from travelling with his other colleagues, including Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.
Melaye told our correspondent via a telephone call while waiting at the police custody that the police officers in charge snatched his travel passport but he snatched it back from them.
Melaye said, “I was about to board with my other colleagues, including Deputy Senate President when an immigration officer came that I could not travel. The officer said it was the police instruction that I could not travel and that I was on INTERPOL list.”
The lawmaker stated that he quickly opened the internet and showed the immigration officers that he was not on INTERPOL list.
However, some police officers arrived the scene to arrest me, Melaye said.
He stated that at present he was in the police custody as they waited for further instruction from their boss, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.
Melaye said that nobody would stop him from speaking the truth.
