Melaye’s Travails, Herdsmen Prevail
Nigeria News takes a look at the drama in the arrest of Senator Dino Melaye that eventually led him to a hospital and the continuous killing by herdsmen without police intervention.
Senator Dino Melaye’s travails in the hands of his official traducers remain the current topic. Meanwhile, many innocent people including priests were slaughtered in cold blood on Tuesday by herdsmen in Benue State.
The attention of the Nigeria Police Force was on a senator whose case had not been fully established whether he was truly involved in gun running or not.
Judgment is coming. It will be swift. It will be soon. And it will not come directly from God. He will only use the human tools he has already prepared for that purpose. And many will weep asking where is God, believing naively, as usual, He is a tool they can kick around as they like.
Not many were concerned about Mohammed Yusuf and his arrested followers when they were killed in cold blood in a supposed democracy. It was enough they had several altercations with the Police. But the Judgment, which descended on the North-East did not spare the innocent and some highly placed persons, who should have spoken out earlier.
This one may not be too different. So much frenzy in the land as second term bid takes centre stage.
If Senator Melaye could jump off a moving vehicle to avoid being taken to his own constituency he represents for fear of being poisoned or given a lethal injection, then why and who is he still representing in Kogi West. This is a million dollar question.
President Muhammadu Buhari outsmarting the parliament in a bid to avoid the usual protocol. Maybe it was an attempt to fast-track the fighter jet purchase and have a firm grip on insurgency before another Democracy Day.
Legislators raising brimstone in the house to initiate impeachment against Buhari and you would want to ask whether the bunch of the house are strangers to the All Progressives, APC that bonds both the President and the legislators together…. all in a bid to negotiate their positions…
The Invasion of the legislative chamber by yet unknown men was done for a purpose even though the drama is yet to yield a visible result. And when Senator Ovie Omo-Agege from Delta Senatorial District who was alleged to have masterminded the seizing of mace walks as a free man, Melaye is cooling off in Kogi State Police Command Headquarters.
He jumped off the moving van of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad that was taking him to Kogi from Abuja but injured himself and landed in an Abuja private hospital.
Melaye may be paraded with other suspects who had indicted him in illegal possession of arms in Lokoja, Kogi State Capital.
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue is not sure if the election will hold in his state as killings take a new dimension. The pain of this man can only be imagined as a state of emergency may be instituted if it goes much worse. Somebody seems to be after Ortom’s political career.
Many more happening daily for us to be entertained and sympathized. At the end of it all who bears the brunt? The masses of course.
