Muhammadu Buhari Inaugurates New NNPC Board with Maikanti Baru as Group Managing Director (GMD)

President Muhammadu Buhari has constituted a new board of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

The board, which will be headed by the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu as chairman has Dr. Maikanti Baru as the new Group Managing Director of NNPC.

The composition of the board and of course the choosing of Baru as NNPC GMD has been generating some discordant views about federal character as to why the president has so much tilted to the north in his recent appointment.

The process, which is in tandem with Section 1(2) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Act of 1997, as amended also made the permanent secretary, Ministry of Finance a member.

Other members include Mallam Abba Kyari, Dr. Thomas John, Dr. Pius Akinyelure, Dr. Tajuddeen Umar; Mallam Mohammed Lawal and Mallam Yusuf Lawal.

While charging the board members to diligently deliver their duties, the president in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, described NNPC as national asset that must be managed well.

During the past administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, it wil be recalled that the former and embattled Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke was the chairman of the board.

Unemployed youths are struggling for employment, people are complaining of unemployment yet one person is managing jobs that two or three persons would manage. One minister is managing three ministerial posts that three ministers would manage. Selfish leaders, keep on deceiving your minors. Thank God I’m self-employed duplication of power and function is one the major disadvantage of FREDRAL system of government
