NAF Helipad Attack: Gunmen Kill Airman In Bayelsa
The Nigerian Air Force in Igbogene, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State has been attacked by unknown gunmen and killed an airman on duty.
The gunmen attacked the NAF helipad killed the airman at the security post and made away with their victim’s rifle on Sunday.
The helicopter landing site at Igbogene is surrounded by overgrown vegetation and trees, a situation source said, made the place to be an easy target for the attack.
The Igbogene helipad is used as the landing place for high profile visitor to Bayelsa state and more than one airman normally stay there but only one was around when the hoodlums struck.
“The second guard was not in when the gunmen came,” a source said.
The incident was described by a source as the activity of politicians. He said, “2019 election is very close. Such thing as this will definitely happen. These hoodlums are political thugs who need weapons to protect their bosses.”
