NANS Threatens To Join ASUU Strike
The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS may join the indefinite strike action of their lecturers, the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
The association issued 21-day-ultimatum to the Federal Government to resolve all matters with ASUU without which it would join the lecturers for solidarity strike.
He said after the ultimatum, if the government could not do anything to resolve the strike, the students would be forced to ground the economic and political activities of the country.
The National President of the association Mr Chinonso Obasi, said in a statement made available to our correspondent that the action of the ASUU is justified, going by the failure of the government to attend to the lecturers’ plight.
“It is with deep pain and regret that NANS received the news of another indefinite strike by ASUU over the Federal Government’s indifference to their plight.
The statement lamented that the political class had no plan to create better future for Nigeria through quality education and called on the government to do something now or face the anger of the students.
“The demands of ASUU are reasonable and touch on the integrity of government, especially in the light of the fight against corruption,” he said.
It stated that it was absurd that the government could fail for seven years to honour the agreement it signed with ASUU on the path of making the nation universities better.
Obasi, however, said the association in the light of the foregoing gave the Federal Government 21 days to resolve outstanding issues with ASUU in the interest of long-suffering Nigerian students.
