NEC Urges FG To Deploy Police, Civil Defence Corps To Liberated Areas In N/E
The National Economic Council has asked the Federal Government to deploy officers and men of the Nigeria Police and National Security and Civil Defence Corps to areas liberated by the Nigerian Army in the northern part of the country.
The deployments are expected to stabilise liberated territory and give the displaced persons, the needed confidence to return to their communities.
The resolution of the council was adopted today on a day the federal government was commended for the improvement in the security situation particularly in the Northcentral and North West.
In another development, Stakeholders in Disaster Risk Management converged in Abuja on Thursday to strategise and come up with solutions to climate-induced natural disasters.
This followed the prediction by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency and the Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency that some states will likely experience flooding.
The Director General of the National Emergency Management agency, Mustapha Maihaja charged stakeholders at state and local government levels to play their part in mitigating the impact of disasters on lives, property and the environment.
