Tinubu’s Unfettered Confidence Ahead of 2019 Polls

Nigeria News takes a look at the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s confidence level ahead of the 2019 polls.

The National leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is so confidence that the All Progressives Congress will win the 2019 general election.

However, he has been quiet despite the defamation of his character within and outside his party. Tinubu’s confidence radiates momentarily and one has to puzzle at times why the former Governor of Lagos is so confident about President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory in 2019.

He has succeeded in choosing almost all his candidates across the southwestern states, including Ogun State where Governor Ibikunle Amosun had stood against him.

Tinubu actively shows that charity begins at home and for him to win the hearts of other regions, he must have put his house in order. He did just that, including stopping the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode from running for the second term.

And with the ongoing crisis within the APC, I expect the party bigwigs to be jittery of the moves by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to dislodge it from the Aso Rock.

The presidential candidate of the PDP, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has scheduled to have a strategic meeting with his supporters outside the country.

The Atiku’s campaign team wants to explore every avenue to launch a powerful propaganda come November 18, when the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC officially flags off the political rally.

But to Tinubu, the PDP can do all that it likes, Nigerians will not vote for the party that wrecked the country’s economy. Tinubu who had a closed-door meeting with President Buhari on Wednesday said that Atiku could hold his meeting in Dubai or in the Jungle, it had nothing to do with the plan of APC.

“We are not jittery,” Tinubu stated. He told the State House correspondent that his visit to Buhari and the discussions were centred on the peace, unity and economy of the country.

There were rumours that Atiku was trying to lobby Tinubu sometime but with the emerging facts, the former Lagos governor is unyielding. Besides working assiduously to help Mr President, it is also clear that Tinubu may be clearing the way for his own political interest in 2023.

He has been meeting those who matter in the north to seal a deal for Buhari’s return without making any loud noise about it. But Tinubu must be very careful in that Atiku is not a lightweight in Nigeria politics and for the fact that he is also a Fulani man, just like Buhari, the emergence of the next Nigeria president will be defined by many factors, including ethnicity.

Yes, the northern votes will be shared. The eastern votes may tilt towards PDP while no one can easily define how the western votes will go due to the complexity of the Yoruba agenda.

The west is divided along the issue of restructuring, the vice presidential candidacy and of course the performance of the current administration. The electorate in the western part of the country think more about the performance of any government rather than who holds, which position.
