Nigeria’ll Always Remember Ekwueme’s Selfless Service – Osinbajo
As the remains of former Vice President Alex Ekwueme was brought to the country from the United Kingdom on Monday, the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that the country will remember the elder statesman for his selfless service.
Ekweme’s body was received at the Presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja by Osinbajo and other personalities.
Amidst Nigerian Police Force parade that brought colour and glamour to the solemn event, Osinbajo said that the timeless ideals of integrity, loyalty and kindness Dr Ekwueme gave to the nation would remain indelible in the history of Nigeria.
As he put it, “The vision Ekwueme had preached and left for the nation will not be in vain. As we receive the body of the first elected Vice President of Nigeria, Dr Alex Ekwueme, GCON, this morning, we are reminded of his selfless service to the nation, to our region, to Africa and indeed the world.”
Osinbajo thanked God for giving Nigeria such human being as Ekwueme and keep him for 85 glorious years for the country, Africa and the world.
Osinbajo spoke of how he had asked Ekwueme in his lifetime how he would like Nigeria to be; He said, “A Nigeria that is addressed as a nation but not a country”.
It shows how patriotic Ekwueme was and dearly he wanted the unity and peace of Nigeria.
