Oba Rilwan Aremu Akiolu Gives Buhari Conditions To Get Lagos Votes
The Lagos monarch, Oba Rilwan Aremu Akiolu (II) has said that unless President Muhammadu Buhari grants the state special status, he may not get the votes of the residents.
He said this at a town hall meeting chaired by the state Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, adding that Lagos deserves special status but successive governments had failed to give it.
Oba Akiolu said that Lagosians would not mind giving their votes to Buhari for the second term but with the condition that the president would grant the state a special status.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu, (APC Lagos Central) has been canvassing a special status for the state but her bill has been rejected by the Senate.
Also speaking at the town hall meeting, the state governor, lamented that Lagos had not been fairly treated by the Federal Government.
According to him, Lagos generates the largest income for the country but the Federal Government never reciprocate this, rather, it has refused to grant the special status.
“Lagos is the largest economy in Nigeria and deserves to be treated as thus,” the governor stated.
Ambode, however, directed residents to procure their Permanent Voters Cards as the 2019 general election draws closer.
