Obasanjo Is Not One Of Us – NIM
The National Intervention Movement, a political group by some Nigerian professionals, has said that former President Olusegun Obasanjo is not part of them.
Chairman of NIM National Steering Committee. Mr Olisa Agbakoba disclosed this to our correspondent, adding that the group had no link with Obasanjo.
However, many believe that the former president had hands in the formation of NIM, following the exchange of correspondences between him and Agbakoba.
Agbakoba had written a letter to Obasanjo on the leadership challenges in the country and in his reply, the former president asked the Senior Advocate and other youths to throw their caps in the ring and fight for a place in leading the country.
After the letters, NIM was born with the Convener of the Political Summit Group, Mr Olawale Okuniyi, as its Director General; and Agbakoba as Chairman of its National Steering Committee.
Also included in the formation of NIM were the foremost political economist, Prof. Pat Utomi, Dr Abduljalil Tafawa Balewa, former governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke; Dr Kemi George; labour activist, Isa Aremu; Rabiu Isaiku Rabiu and Senator Abubakar Gada.
Last week, Obasanjo proposed a coalition for Nigeria Movement in a letter that advised President Muhammadu Buhari not to contest for the second term comes 2019.
