Obasanjo Writes Agbakoba To Lead New Set of Leaders
Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo has challenged the former President of the Nigeria Bar Association, Mr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN) to stand up and lead new generation of leaders in the country.
Obasanjo said this in his reply to Agbakoba’s letter, adding that the youths are unwilling to face the challenges of leadership but waiting to wear dead man’s shoes.
Agbakoba had written a letter to Obasanjo reminding him of his age when he took over the mantle of leadership and that the new set of leaders must be those to heal the broken wounds.
But to Obasanjo, the present crops of youths were not ready, including Agbakoba whom he said had been sitting on the fence for too long.
Obasanjo stated that leaders like Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Nnamdi Azikiwe were younger than Agbakoba when they threw in the caps to the ring to lead the country.
He urged Agbakoba to do the same rather than calling for the heads of old guards who were not ready to quit politics.
He said that the old politicians had remained in the corridors of power because the youths had failed to challenge the status quo, which to him has been the bane of the rot in the socio-political situation of the country.
The former president however advised Agbakoba to step forward and develop a mobilization framework that seeks to rearrange Nigeria on a different basis of legitimacy.
