One Killed, Several Injured In Lagos-Ore Robbery Attack
The conductor of the Young Shall Grow Luxury Bus, with registration number Lagos AAA 283 XM, simply identified as Onyekwere was shot dead by armed bandits who stormed Lagos-Ore Expressway in the early hours of Thursday.
The bandits also injured hundreds of passengers plying the roads and dispossessed them of their personal belongings, according to findings.
Driver of the luxury bus, Mr Obika Orakwe said that he left Onitsha, Anambra State at about 10:30pm Wednesday with the hope of arriving Lagos early Thursday morning but the journey was truncated by the armed robbers.
He said that the bandits opened fire on vehicles at about 3:30am, injuring many passengers while the conductor who was close to the door was killed in the process.
While conducting round the police officers who had come on a rescue mission round the bullet riddling bus, Orakwe said that he had to manage his way through the bush to prevent more casualties.
The attack, however threw the expressway into heavy traffic that many motorists had to sleep on the road while some had to turn back from the dangerous zone.
However, Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki had to take action as he summoned the state Commissioner of Police, Haliru Gwandu to the road to address the situation.
The commissioner who was accompanied by the Director of the Department of State Services, DSS, Ibrahim Hiliu and Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Osarodion Ogie discovered that the traffic became intense because some motorists blocked the road in protest against insecurity.
Gwandu physically came to the place to control traffic as he promised the motorists that the police would intensify effort in curbing robbery on the expressway.
