Operation Save Nigeria: Obasanjo Seeks Afenifere’s Support
As part of his effort to save Nigeria from collapse, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has sought the support of the Pan Yoruba Socio-cultural group Afenifere.
Obasanjo called for the support when he visited the residence of the Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti in Akure, Ondo State on Monday.
Obasanjo said that the last time he visited Afenifere was about 20 years ago when he was contesting for the presidential election in 1999.
He said that the leader of the group then, Pa Abraham Adesanya refused to support his ambition and for three times that he visited Afenifere, the group never gave him support.
However, Obasanjo stated that he had been working to keep Nigeria as one while Afenifere had been working to unite Yoruba and to fight for Yoruba course.
“Invariably, both of us have been working for the positive growth of this nation and this makes me seek the support of Afenifere to work for the betterment of this nation,” Obasanjo said.
Reacting, Pa Fasoranti said that the Afenifere would give its support to the positive moves of Obasanjo for the betterment of Nigeria.
In the meeting, which lasted for about 30 minutes, Pa Fasoranti said it was historic that Obasanjo could come back 20 years after to seek the cooperation of Afenifere.
“We will cooperate with you in the struggle”, Fasoranti said.
