PDP Crisis: Makarfi Loyalists Threaten To Decamp If Modu-Sheriff Wins At Supreme
Loyalists of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP have threatened to decamp to another party if the National Chairman of the party, Ali Modu-Sheriff wins at the Supreme Court.
The group led by former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives Chief Emeka Ihedioha, said this at a stakeholders meeting at Obiri Ehinkirinki Hall, Okpala in Ngor Okpala local council area of Imo State on Wednesday.
He said, “Let me say it here that almost all PDP members who are loyal to Makarfi, including me will decamp to another party that is ready to absorb us if Modu-Sheriff wins at the Supreme Court.”
The Makarfi’s National Caretaker Committee of the party had challenged the verdict of the Appeal Court sitting in Port Harcourt that affirmed the chairmanship of Modu Sheriff at the Supreme Court.
Speaking, Ihedioha said that his group would never work with Modu-Sherrif because the embattled chairman had hidden agenda to perpetrate in PDP.
“There will be a PDP stakeholders meeting, comprising all former governors, serving and former lawmakers at the national and state levels, in Owerri on Sunday.”
The former Deputy Speaker said that it was the desire of the PDP to return power to the people according to its slogan but added that such might be difficult under the leadership of Modu-Sheriff.
Speaking on behalf of the party loyalists, Ngor Okpala Local Government Area, party Chairman, Mr. Morrison Njoku, commended Ihedioha for the trip and described him as “a true leader.”
