Pension Scam: Maina Exposes Those Aiding Pension Thieves
The former Chairman of the defunct Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Alhaji Abdulrasheed Maina on Friday accused the 7th Senate of aiding pension thieves.
He said in a letter written to the Senate that the 7th senate led by David Mark forced him out of the country because he was trying to expose its activities in pension frauds.
The letter, dated June 19, 2015, and leaked on Friday revealed that over N3tn hidden had yet to be recouped from 97 pension offices before he fled the country.
Titled “Pension reform task team”, the letter showed how the then Senate Joint Committee on Establishment and Public Service and States and Local Government Administration between 2011 and 2013 were aiding pension thieves, which the PTFPR kicked against.
Maina appealed through the letter for a review of the investigation by the new Senate committee so that he could shed more light on how the pension funds were stolen by the political elites.
According to the letter, the task force was able to recover N1.6tn from pension thieves, using financial intelligence during the period while 46 persons were arrested for involving in pension fraud.
He said that while the task force was making frantic effort to expose all those involved in pension scam, the Senate committee was haunting members of the committee.
He said, “I have to flee the country when it was clear that they wanted to assassinate me. Unknown gunmen shot at my car five times. I escaped by the grace of God.”
