Police Avert Trouble As Atiku Submits Nomination Form
It took men of the Nigeria Police Force to avert trouble at the Peoples Democratic Party secretariat, Abuja when an aspirant, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar came to submit his nomination form.
Atiku who will be contesting the presidential primary of the party on October 6 had arrived the secretariat with mammoth supporters.
Earlier before his arrival, some of his supporters had staged themselves at the secretariat with banners carrying the pictures of Atiku as they chanted solidarity songs to welcome the former vice president.
However, the jubilation went sour when the fans engaged in free for due to misunderstanding among them. Our correspondent gathered that some of the fans were found with a banner of an opposition party and consequently attacked by others.
They turned the secretariat to the battlefield until men of the Nigeria Police intervened. The policemen fired teargas to the air to disperse the rampaging fans from the secretariat.
Speaking after he had submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms, Atiku said it became necessary for him to contest because Nigeria was not moving forward as a nation.
He explained that he would have not shown interest in presidency anymore if the present government of the All Progressives Congress was working.
“But as we can see, nothing is working in Nigeria as at present,” he said.
