Police Nab Five Over Plans to Rob Lagos Banks
No fewer than five suspected Armed Robbers who were planning to rob Lagos banks have been arrested by the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
The IRT Commander, ACP Abba Kyari said this on Friday, adding that the suspects were among those who attacked and killed four policemen and one army officer in Ikorodu, Lagos in April.
“They were arrested in Ikorodu and Ajah Area while strategizing on how to attack some banks in Lagos,” Kyari said.
He said their arrest was part of the IGP Ibrahim Idris’ effort to neutralise the threat posed on Lagos by the notorious new militant leader called America.
Kyari named the leader of the group as “America”, whom according to him was among those who kidnapped pupils from Lagos Model Collge, Igbonla in Epe.
“They were all arrested after several days of unrelenting follow-ups by the IRT.
He noted that some of the gangs were militants and that they had completed the surveillance of the bank, preparing to carry out the operation when the police nabbed them.
Kyari disclosed that the fifth suspect was a security man working for the bank who had connived with the robbers to carry out the operation.
“Their plan was to hire two operation bus that would convey them from the creek to the banks,” Kyari stated.
