Police Recover The Stolen Mace Under A Flyover At Abuja
The operatives of the Nigeria Police have recovered the mace stolen from the chambers of the Nigeria senate on Wednesday.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Deputy Force Spokesman, SP Aremu Adeniran, a copy of which was made available to our correspondent.
According to the statement, the stolen mace was found under a flyover at the Abuja city gate by a passerby who quickly alerted the police about it.
However, the police had not been able to arrest the perpetrators of this crime as the investigation continues to apprehend them.
Adeniran explained that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris had directed a tighter security at the National Assembly and that the perpetrators of the seized mace must be brought to book as soon as they find them.
Recalled that the police arrested a senator from Delta State Ovie Omo-Agege for allegedly leading some thugs to the chambers to seize the mace.
He was arrested after the Senate plenary on Wednesday but had since been released. Omo-Agege was suspended by the Senate for 90 days and was not supposed to be at the plenary on Wednesday.
However, the senator said that the court had upturn the suspension and was at the plenary like any other senator on Wednesday.
