Police Secretly Arraigns Premium Times Reporter, Ogundipe
The Nigeria Police Force has secretly arraigned the reporter of the online publication, Premium Times, Samuel Ogundipe at the Kubwa Magistrate Court, Abuja.
The reporter was taken to court without allowing him to speak with his lawyer or Editor in Chief, Musikilu Mojeed.
The reporter was arrested over a story he wrote on the letter of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo that led to the eventual sack of the former Director General of the Department of State Service, Lawal Daura.
Ogundipe who has been in the detention facility of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad for about five days said that the police charged him for criminal trespass and theft of police document.
However, the story changed at the court as the police accused him of violating Sections 352, 288 and 319 of the Penal Code.
A review of the sections, however, indicated that they are not related to the charges but are about sexual assault and attempted murder.
Ogundipe is being pressurized by the police to disclose his source so that they could trace who gave him the document or perhaps he stole it.
