Police Teargas Kills Schoolboy In Lagos
The gun battle between men of the Nigeria Police and hoodlums in Mushin area of Lagos left three people, including a pupil of Ansarudeen Comprehensive College dead on Tuesday.
The pupil identified as Samuel Okechukwu, according to the investigation was asthmatic and could not withstand the effect of the teargas fired into the school premises by the policemen during the clash.
Our correspondent learnt that the policemen had broken into a shop on Elegba Street to arrest some hoodlums for selling India Hemp.
The hoodlums attacked the policemen with stones and bottles, which made the law enforcement agents reinforce themselves and return with teargas and arms.
The shootouts left three people dead, including the pupil, Okechukwu who inhaled the teargas. The area was thrown into pandemonium as many traders quickly locked up their stores and fled for safety.
When our correspondent visited the area, the whole street had been deserted while the police patrol vans were seen patrolling the community.
Commenting, the Public Relations for the Lagos State Police Command, Chike Oti confirmed the incident but could not mention how many people died in the fracas.
The police spokesman stated that investigation was ongoing.
