Power Generation Setback As Escravos Expolodes Again
There is going to be power outage again in some parts of the country, following the explosion of the Escravos-Lagos Pipeline on Thursday.
Our correspondent gathered that the explosion was caused by the leaking gas pipeline around Ugbokodo community near the Warri refinery in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State.
A resident told our correspondent that the loud bang of the explosion threw the community into disarray as people scampered for their lives.
“The fire was burning towards some homes. The residents had to flee. It was a terrible inferno,” he said.
Many of the residents who fled into the bush are still missing as at this morning, according to findings.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has begun a repair work at the site but could not say the cause of the leakage.
It took the combined efforts of the men of the fire services of the NGC and the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company as well as other agencies to put out the fire at about 8 am.
The NNPC Group Managing Director Dr Maikanti Baru has clearly directed that gas supply from other sources such as Oben, Oredo, Sapele, Ughelli and Utorogu be stepped up to augment any shortfall, as repair works had commenced on the pipeline.
