Prophet Jailed For 25 Months For Stealing
An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State has sentenced a 32-year-old man, Lukman Yaya to 25 months’ imprisonment for stealing and impersonating.
The senior magistrate, Mr. S. O.Banwo, gave the ruling on Monday without any option of fine.
According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, the convict committed the offence on Februry 8 at about 11.30am in Joju area of Ota, Ogun State.
He said that convict disguised as prophet and unlawfully obtained the sum of N17, 500 from one Aderibigbe Toyosi.
Gbesi explained that Toyosi had approached the fake prophet to help her solve a spiritual problem in which she was asked to pay N17, 500.
“After the payment, the prophet failed to solve the problem, reneging on his promise,” the prosecutor said.
The victim also stated that the convict stole her mobile phone valued at N22,500 during an appointment with him.
Gbesi said the offences contravened Sections 249(d) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
