Provide Proof Of My Corrupt Past Or Shut Up, Atiku Tells Political Enemies
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has called on those who criticized him as corrupt person to provide evidence against him or shut up forever.
He said this during a facility tour of Yaliam Press Limited in Jabi area of Abuja on Monday.
The ex-vice president who vowed to fight corruption as never before if given a chance to become the Nigerian president said that he had never been convicted of any corrupt cases.
He said that those tagging him as being corrupt were his political enemies who could not come forward with a single shred of evidence of his corruption while in office.
The former Vice-President said, “It is sickening to continue to regurgitate allegations of corruption against me by people.”
He noted that only people who were not resourceful would think that nobody could make wealth without being corrupt.
“People who are bereft of ideas about entrepreneurial spirit always think that everyone else is a thief just like them,” he added.
On William Jefferson’s trial in the United States, Atiku explained that the case which ended in 2009 never linked him with any corrupt activity but was surprised that his political enemies had continue to sing songs of corruption to tarnish his image.
The former Vice President said that he never stole a kobo as an officer of the Nigeria Customs Service and had to resign from there to start his private business.
As he put it, “I did not become a Vice-President in 1999 as a pauper because he had been a successful investor throughout his retirement life.”
