Sagay Throws Weight Behind Restructuring
The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, PACAC, Itse Sagay, SAN has thrown his weight behind the restructuring of the Federal structure.
He said in Lagos on Thursday at Hallmarks of Labour Foundation Re-union that the country cannot grow with the way it is structured at present.
According to him the political elites are fisting on the wealth of this country, most of whom are members of the National Assembly.
He said it is absurd that the only thing the state governors know now is trooping to Abuja to share money at the end of every month.
“The Federal Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun shares money from the Federation Account to the governors based on a formula no one really understood,’ he said.
According to Sagay, the money that is being shared by the state governors comes from Lagos State Government VAT and funds realized from crude oil.
He lamented that no state could grow with this kind of structure and arrangement as he called for restructuring.
To him, every month, the Minister of Finance chairs the meeting with 36 state commissioners for Finance to share the money generated by one or two states.
He also used the occasion to lambast lawmakers, adding that they were not supposed to be addressed as honorable.
