Sanwo-Olu’s Slow Pace On Lagos Fast Lane
ElevateNews takes a look at the pace at which Lagos State Governor is running the State.
It is not yet clear to me the direction of the present administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State. It is unlike Lagos for this governor’s slow pace. All the projects on ground, most of which have been abandoned were executed by the immediate past administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
The politics that removed Ambode seems not to be favouring Sanwo-Olu who has chosen to please the All Progressives Congress, APC and the party stalwarts rather than working to take Lagos to the next level.
Lagos has been a pacesetter in so many ways. It is a model that other States in Nigeria look up to set their agenda but with the way things have started under Sanwo-Olu, the attention of the southwest people have been shifted to Oyo State, the real Pacesetter S
Currently, I do not see anything excellent in Lagos but many things have been done in Oyo by the Peoples Democratic Party-led government.
A peep at the drains on Lagos Island is an indication that Sanwo-Olu has failed to address the Lagos waste problem that actually brought him to power.
The former Commissioner for Finance in Lagos, Mr. Wale Edun was praising Sanwo-Olu for his feat in the waste control in the last 100 days in office. I do not know the yardstick that Edun used to give Sanwo-Olu the pass mark.
The drains in Lagos are filled with bottles and other refuse while the government has failed to remove them 100 days after it assumed office.
Of course, the Ambode’s Visionscape modern waste disposal method has been rested for the PPP system, the purpose is to create jobs for party members so that the national cake can spread across.
APC has not done much to clean Lagos up of dirt. The Oshodi Interchange, which was started by Ambode is yet to wear a new look. The Onikan Stadium, which was under rehabilitation under Ambode had been abandoned. The Ikeja Modern Motor Park will soon become a monument under Sanwo-Olu.
The Agege Flyover is one of the biggest projects under Ambode, perhaps the present administration will speed up the work tomorrow.
Sanwo-Olu supposed to be the best governor in Lagos, having worked with the three past administrations of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) and Ambode but he may become the worst if care is not taken.
Asiwaju created the blueprint of new Lagos, Fashola actualized it, Ambode changed it by enlarging the scope of what should be done. We all saw the creation of parks under Fashola’s tree and flower planting scheme. Ambode brought the idea of building laybys to ease traffic but what is Sanwo-Olu creating?
I have not yet seen the innovations that Sanwo-Olu promised to bring on board. Lagos has the funds and with the arrays of technocrats in the present Lagos State Executive Council, there should be no excuse for non-performance.
