Saraki Loyalists, APC Caucus At Loggerheads
The plot to impeach the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki when the Senate resumes on September 26 will be determined by so many factors.
Our correspondent gathered that as the All Progressives Congress caucus at the Senate is planning to remove Saraki who is warming up to defect to another party, the loyalists of the Senate president are also strategizing on how to keep him in the presiding position.
The APC caucus, “The Parliamentary Support Group” has called on Saraki to resign his position as soon as he defects from the party but Saraki loyalists said that it is not possible.
According to Mr Yusuph Olaniyonu, the media aide to Saraki, the election and removal of the Senate president can only be done by simple majority and two third of the senators.
He said, “We all know the process of the election and impeachment of the Senate president. Nobody can just wake up to say that the Senate president must be impeached and have it done without following the due process.”
The Saraki’s loyalists said that they were not bothered by whatever the APC caucus might be planning against the Senate president but would be ready to stand against illegality at the Senate.
