Senator Sani’s Import Of Anti-Snake Venom

Nigeria News takes a look at the humour and politics of a snake that swallowed N36 million JAMB fund from Senator Shehu Sani’s eyes.

Senator Shehu Sani (APC Kaduna Central) is one of the eloquent Nigerian lawmakers. With his poetic and oratory quality, the senator has sponsored quality bills that have since become laws.

His sound debating ability has changed some government policies and exposed corrupt practices in high places. As the Chairman Senate Committee on Foreign and Domestic Debts, he has used the position to probe various bodies involved in financial misappropriation.

He headed the committee that investigated the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engineer Babachir Lawal over the allegation of diverting the Internally Displaced Person’s Fund to a private account.

He kept on shouting at every plenary when the Federal Government was trying to sweep the case under the carpet and ensured that the SGF Babachir was sacked. Sani’s words carry weight and active.

He is a fearless senator that does not mince words when criticizing President Muhammadu Buhari’s government and has had an altercation with his state Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai on so many occasions for his candid opinion on Kaduna State Government.

A few days ago, his constituency threatened to recall him for regularly criticizing the president despite being in the same party. Sani would tell you that issues of herdsmen and killings around the country should not be politicized and that he would not address it as an APC member but a Nigerian and senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

However, on Tuesday, the senator revealed his sense of humour when he visited the headquarters of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board to donate cartons of anti-snake venom to it.

He said he learnt that a snake swallowed N36 million JAMB funds and had come to donate the anti-snake venom so that such things would not occur again.

That’s true, a member of the staff of the board, Mrs Philomina Chieshe of the board Markurdi’s office in Benue state had cried out that a big snake swallowed N36 million accrued from the sales of JAMB scratch cards.

Chieshe is JAMB Sales Clerk and has been suspended as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission continues with its investigation. Perhaps if the police can arrest the snake, they will need anti-snake venom to paralyse its power for it to testify.

That is how bad Nigeria has turned into during President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. It began with rodents that took over President Muhammadu Buhari’s office because the president was away on medical vacation in London.

It took almost two months to fumigate the office and chase out the rats and mice in the corridor of power. The rodents only destroyed some furniture and electrical appliances, including the air conditioner.

However, the case was different in Benue where bigger animals, cows and herdsmen destroyed farm and innocent souls. About 73 residents of Benue were killed by herdsmen in broad daylight.

And until last week, blood was flowing in Benue because some cattle must graze. Back to Sani, the senator met the JAMB Registrar Ishaq Oloyede and presented anti-snake venom.

Oloyede promised him that not only would the board use the anti-snake venom, it would fish out all the snakes that have been swallowing the JAMB funds.
