Sex Scandal: Between Varsities and Churches

By  |

ElevateNews takes a look at the sex scandal in varsities and the reaction of the church.

I once listened to Senior Pastor of Day Star Christian Centre, Sam Adeyemi and marvelled at his teaching. He said, “You cannot suppress temptation with determination.” He must have been talking from experience.

The scriptures made it clear that no one should boast because the race is not even for the swift. Every saint has his past and definitely, a sinner will have a future. It is either the sinner perishes in his sin or he becomes born again and make heaven by the Grace of God.

In other hand, a saint of today may be frustrated to become a sinner and eventually miss heaven, according to the scripture. Invariably, only His Grace can save a man but not his education or wisdom.

Today, there are men of God as well as the god of men. Those that were truly called by God like Prophet Samuel and those who called themselves like Ba-Jesus.

The proliferation of Pentecostalism has cluttered the priests with kings. Those that were called to be professors also love to be called pastors and vice versa. Traditional kings want to mount the pulpit and pastors want to sit on the stool.

Cathedral looks more like a palace. University dons are clergy in the church. They pretend as the saint to lead the sheep but when the academic environment exposes them as it did to Professor Richard Akindele of the Obafemi Awolowo University and recently, Dr. Boniface Igbeneghu of the University of Lagos, the church who anointed them are always the first to deny them.

Judgment will begin from the church, so the Bible says. A few months ago, a pastor of COZA, Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, Biodun Fatoyinbo was accused of sexual misconduct against Bisola, wife of popular singer, Timi Dakolo. The church denied the pastor within 24 hours of the allegation.

The place of the king is different from that of the priest. Of course, a king may be blessed with the Holy Spirit, his role is not to take the position of a priest. Prophet Samuel was called to rule as a priest, not as a king. He was rejected by his people when he sought to be king.

King David had the Holy Spirit, he never at any time ascribed himself as a priest. That explains why a pastor like the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye has chosen the priesthood over professorship. It also explains why Pastor W. F. Kumuyi resigned as a lecturer from the University of Lagos to form Deeper Life Bible Ministry. It also applies to Pastor D. K. Olukoya who quit university environment to become a fulltime pastor of the Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministry.

These men saw it long ago that the calling for academic is different from the calling to the pulpit, and to excel, one must give way. The church will always deny an adulterer, even if it will pray for him for cleansing. Let professor who is weak in the flesh quit the priesthood and live as a man.
