Strange Illness Allegedly Kills 70 In Kwara
About 70 people have been allegedly died of strange illness in Oro-Ago community of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The President, Oro-Ago Development Union, Olaniyi Olushosa made this known to our correspondent, adding that the sickness is predominant among Fulani herdsmen who live in the community.
According to him, the Fulani called Bororos in the community started vomiting blood since the outbreak of the illness on July 23, 2017.
Also speaking, the Oloro of Oro-Ago, Oba Tafa Dada said that the Fulani settlers were also vomiting dark substance, which consequently led to death, adding that about 70 people including the indigenes had died of the sickness.
They said families had been devastated and called on government to come to their aid.
“We have reported the case to the state Ministry of Heath through one Dr. Lawal but nothing has been done as our people continue to die.” He said.
He said, “It is worrisome that the Oro-Ago General Hospital had been abandoned and left dilapidated. No health workers, nothing; right now, our community lacks health centres.
However, the Kwara State Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Suliaman Aloge, denied the outbreak of any strange illness, adding that the officials of the ministry had visited the place.
He said that the residents of the community had concocted the story of death because they needed a functional health centre, which the government had promise to provide soon.
