Suspend Baru Now, PDP Tells Buhari
The Peoples Democratic Party has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr Maikanti Baru over the allegation of insubordination and award of contracts without approval levied against him.
The party made this call in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Dr Dayo Adeyeye, urging the president to reprimand Baru without delay.
According to the statement, the PDP received with shock the grave allegation of financial misconduct to the tune of $25 billion levied against GMD NNPC by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu.
It said that it was unfortunate that President Muhammadu Buhari had not spoken over the matter since he received a petition from the minister on August 30, 2017.
The statement expressed the displeasure of PDP over the matter as it called on the government not to sweep the issue under the carpet.
Kachikwu wrote a petition to Buhari, alleging Baru of insubordination, adding that the GMD NNPC had derailed from the procedure to award contracts and make appointments.
He accused Baru of sidelining the board of NNPC in carrying out his function according to the laydown rules.
He wanted Buhari to intervene before Baru would rock the boat of the country’s oil and gas sector in his petition.
