S*xual Abuse: Women Protest In Kano
The Professional Women Group stormed the city of Kano early morning to protest the growing rate of s*xual abuse of girl child and women.
The women led by Nana Asmau Gwadabe carried placards with various inscriptions such as, “Real men don’t rape women, Stop this crime against women” and marched towards the state House of Assembly.
Speaking, Gwadabe lamented that cases of minors being raped in the state is alarming while government has not done enough to address the menace.
Also in the protest were members of the Alumni Association of the St. Louis Secondary School, Kano who expressed their displeasure with the spate of s*xual abuse in the state.
The women marched through the major roads in the ancient city, causing vehicular traffic but with no civil disturbance.
Gwadabe said that the protesters were marching to the State House of Assembly to register their anger over s*xual abuse of women in the state.
Cases of s*xual abuse had been on the increase across the country with Lagos State recording the highest.
Most of the cases never got to the court as victims and accused have always settled with the police.
Investigation also revealed that most victims and perpetrators were either related or connected, making it so difficult for the law to take its stance.
